Multiple MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi took time out from his busy schedule to sample the latest and greatest from Ferrari, the 488 Pista, on Wednesday. The test drive took place at Ferrari's Fiorano test track in Maranello, Italy, where Rossi was able to push the 710-horsepower machine to the limits.

Michael Leiters, Ferrari's chief technical officer, gave us the rundown of all the changes made to create the 488 Pista.

The new Ferrari 488 Pista, which has made its public debut at the Geneva motor show, dispatches the benchmark 0-62mph as quickly as the Italian brand's halo model, the LaFerrari. The 488 Pista – a more powerful, lighter variant of the 488 GTB, just as the 458 Speciale was to the 458 – covers 0-62mph.

Pricing remains to be seen, but anticipate a sticker above the pricing of the 488 GTB, which opens at just over $300,000.

Ferrari did not specify pricing for the 488 Pista, but for comparison's sake, a "standard" 488 GTB will run you $252,800, and the old 458 Speciale cost about $300,000. We'll get up close and personal with this weaponized chunk of carbon fiber when we head to Geneva in a couple weeks.
